SCUDI: A New Tool for the Protection of Migrant Rights
In the Italian context, where human rights are often under pressure, we launched SCUDI In March 2024, SCUDI was launched —an innovative European project aimed at strengthening the knowledge, skills, and capacities of lawyers, trainees, activists, and civil society operators engaged in the protection of human rights. The project aims to improve the effectiveness of strategic litigation in favor of migrants. SCUDI is funded by the European Commission under the “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” (CERV) program and seeks to develop strategic litigation as a key tool for implementing the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union in the Italian national context.
The Website and Legal Database: An Accessible Legal Resource
In December 2024, we launched the project’s official website: SCUDI – SCUola di DIritti Umani – Home.
One of SCUDI’s key pillars is its legal database, a freely accessible resource available in both Italian and English. This database compiles and organises practical guidelines, legal documents, court rulings, case studies, and relevant tools for protecting migrant people’s rights. The goal is to provide concrete support for professionals in the field, promoting a broader use of strategic litigation.
Two Reports Published:
As part of this project, CILD is developing a European network of NGOs engaged in sea rescue, aiming to support these organisations through the exchange of knowledge and best practices. The initiative also seeks to enhance the strategic dispute resolution capabilities of civil society organisations defending migrant people’s rights.
The first two network meetings took place in June and October 2024 in Rome, leading to two reports that are available for free download on the SCUDI website.
