How to improve strategic litigation for people with disabilities
The Italian Coalition for Civil Liberties and Rights (CILD) is pleased to announce the publication of two essential tools for the promotion of the rights of people with disabilities and for the fight against discrimination. The documents were produced as part of the LITIS project called Enhance the Knowledge and Skills of Legal Professionals and Other Stakeholders in using strategic litigation to enforce the rights of persons with disabilities with the contribution of the European Union and in cooperation with institutions and associations at the international level.
The Compendium of Case Law is a collection of emblematic legal cases illustrating challenges and advances in the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. This compendium, which is a collaboration between legal experts from Romania, Italy and Spain, offers an overview of significant cases in different legal contexts over the last 4 years. It is a useful tool for legal professionals and human rights defenders, showing the importance of a consistent application of national and international standards to fight discrimination. The collection of emblematic cases concerning Italy is translated into Italian for ease of reading and use.
Alongside the compendium, the Handbook of Strategic Litigation for the rights of people with disabilities provides practical guidance on how to pursue strategic litigation that can have a transformative impact. The handbook delves into techniques and strategies to advance litigation that have the potential to generate structural change, promoting human rights and inclusion. It is a reference tool for practitioners, presenting innovative legal approaches and communication and advocacy models to defend and enhance the rights of persons with disabilities. This publication represents a fundamental step towards greater awareness and ongoing commitment to the promotion of human rights, which is why it has been translated entirely into Italian to facilitate its understanding and implementation.
Both documents demonstrate the importance of international collaboration and the use of strategic litigation for concrete change, placing the dignity and equality of all people at the centre.
We invite all practitioners, activists and anyone involved in the defence of human rights to consult and disseminate these documents, in order to promote a more just and inclusive society.
